Community Organizing
OHRD builds an engaged, empowered, and educated base rooted in local communities and a shared vision. Members join through campaigns, co-ops offering material benefits, or networks aligned with their political or social interests.
OHRD combats political isolationism by connecting seemingly unrelated struggles, emphasizing the lived practice of intersectionality. This commitment to linking issues and fostering interconnected movements is central to its community organizing efforts.
Our organizing is carried out in a three-fold strategy involving:
-
Member Orientation and Support provides potential and current members the space to meet and assess political alignment.
-
Leadership Development program emphasizes political education, skills building, organizational leadership development
-
Organizing Assemblies which include Organizational Assemblies (members' only gatherings) and Community Assemblies (open to all community members)
Solidarity economy organizing - building critical community infrastructure based on basic human rights needs
